Patient Buzz Series: Green Light Therapy

Light therapy has been making news in the consumer press for years, and there’s a new wavelength in the spotlight – green light. Women’s Health wrote about green light therapy, which emits at a range of 500-570nm, as a way to treat dark spots and inflammation. While this therapy is not commonly available in dermatologists’ offices and research is limited, some dermatologists are recommending their patients use at-home devices that emit green light.

CBS Mornings interviewed dermatologist Dr. Elizabeth Hale after a legislator in California introduced a bill to ban the sale of anti-aging skincare products to minors. Dr. Hale explained why ingredients such as glycolic acid and retinol can damage pre-teen and teen skin. She also shared how to properly care for the skin at a young age.

New Beauty outlined advances in microneedling that can help dermatologists and plastic surgeons achieve enhanced results. New and emerging trends include pairing microneedling with exosomes and other ingredients that can regenerate the skin. In addition, dermatologist Dr. David Rahan believes microneedling may soon be used for drug delivery, which could enhance the effectiveness of treatments for acne, melasma, and hyperpigmentation. Body treatments, including tightening loose skin and repairing sun damaged forearms, are another new avenue for microneedling.
