A model and influencer is making news for using her sister’s breast milk as part of her skincare routine. According to an article in People magazine, Quenlin Blackwell uses the breast milk for baths and face masks. Dermatologist Dr. Naana Boakye said breast milk has shown potential for soothing inflammatory skin conditions as well as moisturizing and strengthening the skin barrier. Dr. Boakye recommends people patch test first and only use fresh or properly stored breast milk. She also recommends colostrum-based products as a substitute.
New Beauty is asking if vinegar is the key to healing post-treatment skin. According to the article, vinegar soaks can help prevent infection by killing bacteria and fungi on the skin while reducing inflammation and healing time. Dermatologist Dr. Julie Russak recommends vinegar after treatments that disrupt the skin barrier or pH, including PDT, lasers, microneedling, and chemical peels. The physicians quoted in the article shared different approaches for using vinegar, including a vinegar soak or squirt bottle spray.
Real Simple profiled madecassoside’s soothing properties for sensitive skin. Madecassoside is an antioxidant that’s also anti-inflammatory and found in the leaves of the Centella asiatica plant. Already a popular skincare ingredient in Korea, dermatologist Dr. Toral Vaidya says she often uses products with madecassoside to calm irritated or inflamed skin after laser procedures or chemical peels.
