Beauty influencers are now recommending an unusual treatment for skin rejuvenation: salmon sperm facials. As noted in Newsweek, the treatment involves injecting polynucleotides, which are stretchy molecules taken from fish DNA. The injectable gel binds with water molecules, which firm and hydrate the skin, according to Dr. Gizem Seymenoglu, a facial aesthetics doctor in the U.K. The treatment reportedly addresses several signs of aging, including wrinkles and brown spots, as well as improves scars, pores and stretch marks.
However, dermatologist Dr. Hadley King said she would not recommend the treatment nor would she try salmon sperm facials herself. Dr. King says the treatment is not proven to be safe and effective, and the FDA has not approved the treatment.
