The U.S. Marine Corps’ tightened shaving rules could impact its service members with pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB), according to NBC News. Guidance issued in March says that a service member may be discharged from the Marines if PFB persists within a year while under a four-part treatment plan. Previously, Marines with PFB resistant to topical treatment were able to receive temporary or permanent shaving waivers. Dermatologist Dr. Chris Adigun believes the change is rooted in discrimination as up to 60 percent of Black men have PFB, according to the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology.
TODAY.com looked at the differences between Korean and American sunscreens. Popular on social media, Korean sunscreens are noted for their lightweight, cosmetically elegant formulations. In the article, dermatologist Dr. Joyce Park says, “Most Asian sunscreens are formulated to feel like skin care.” Sunscreen companies in Korea use chemical filters that are not available in American sunscreens. In addition, Korean sunscreens include plant-based ingredients. The article noted that, while Korean and American sunscreens are both effective, consumers may prefer Korean sunscreens for their texture and feel.
Town & Country wrote about aesthetic treatments that can address loose skin from sudden weight loss. Dermatologist Dr. Rita Linker tells patients to undergo radiofrequency microneedling to help boost collagen production in the skin before starting a GLP-1 agonist. She also advises patients take their weight loss journey slowly and eat a lot of protein. Once the weight has been lost, she turns to radiofrequency microneedling as well as Sculptra to boost the body’s collagen production.
