The link between flying and melanoma made news recently after dermatologist Dr. Joyce Park posted to TikTok about the increased incidence of melanoma in airline pilots. In her post, Dr. Park recommended flyers wear sunscreen or keep the windows shut. She highlighted research published in JAMA Dermatology in 2015 that found the amount of UVA radiation pilots receive in a cockpit during a nearly hour-long flight at 30,000 feet is the same as a 20-minute tanning bed session.
