Women’s Dermatologic Society WDS

Learn how the Women’s Dermatologic Society WDS can bring you networking opportunities, access to grant programs and lead you to great mentors.

Explain briefly what the WDS does.

The Women’s Dermatologic Society cultivates personal and professional development of dermatologists, with a focus on mentorship, volunteerism, and leadership. WDS offers a number of awards programs and volunteer opportunities, along with events that offer a chance to network and build leadership skills.

What is something unique about your society?

Members often say that the Women’s Dermatologic Society feels like a family. Our members are a close-knit network of friends who value mentorship, volunteerism, and leadership, and that sets us apart from other Societies. We are always looking for new members, so if you’d like to join, please visit our website today.

Who do you publish?

The Women’s Dermatologic Society’s peer-reviewed journal, the International Journal of Women’s Dermatology (IJWD), publishes articles pertaining to dermatological medical, surgical, and cosmetic issues faced by female patients and their children. We are interested in original research articles, review articles, unusual case reports, new treatments, clinical trials, education, mentorship and viewpoint articles. Publication scholarships are available for residents and fellows. More information is available at http://www.ijwdonline.org/

Who are your members?

Our members represent a diverse cross-section of professional sub-specialties in the areas of private practice, academia, managed care, and industry. Membership is available for current dermatology residents and fellows and practicing physicians in the United States and abroad. Corporate representatives are also eligible for membership. The WDS is proud to call over 800 physicians, residents, and corporate representatives our members – we hope this number will continue to grow as more people get involved!

How do your members benefit?

Our members enjoy many benefits, including networking opportunities, leadership training, access to grant programs, as well as member and mentor directories. The WDS also has a focus on volunteering and community involvement, offering programs for members to make an impact in their local communities. Members also receive an electronic newsletter each month to keep them updated about all opportunities available.

What events do you have coming up?

The Women’s Dermatologic Society holds an Annual Meeting Luncheon during the AAD Annual Meeting, and this year the Luncheon will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2017. We also hold receptions during other dermatology meetings including the SID, ASDS, and ACMS. Regional events and volunteer opportunities are held throughout the year. What do you contribute to dermatology?

WDS contributes to the field of dermatology by providing our members with the tools and resources they need to be successful, productive dermatologists; whether that be through building leadership skills, fostering mentoring relationships, or providing networking opportunities. We advance the field by promoting research through our grant programs and the IJWD.

Are you doing any research?

Our members are often very involved in research. The Women’s Dermatologic Society offers a grant program, the Academic Research Award, which provides funding for members to perform basic science or clinical research relevant to the field of dermatology.
